Farmers and members of the Sussex County Board of Agriculture have a long tradition of participating in programs that help feed those in need in our communities. Their contributions are helping to bring fresh foods to many tables. But the need for assistance is increasing.
Local food pantries, soup kitchens and community groups report an steady increase in the number of families needing assistance. While the problems are complex, there is a simple way to help address the issue of hunger in our communities:
PLANT A ROW for the hungry is a national initiative started by the Garden Writer's Association. The community based, grassroots campaign encourages everyone to plant just one extra row which is dedicated for sharing with those in need. Over the years, tons of fresh produce has been distributed directly to those in need. The SCBOA would like to invite you to participate in our local efforts to address hunger in our community-one row at a time.
The Pledge
Dedicate one row-or one patio pot- of your garden harvest to be directly donated to the hungry in your community.
Pledging is easy.
Share your pledge to participate in Plant A Row right here on the SCBOA website. Complete and submit the participation pledge card below. You can also make your participation pledge during a visit to the Sussex County Farmer's Market or other participating farm locations.
